ParaVolley EUROPE Sitting & Standing Volleyball in Europe
Local international sitting volleyball referee Nello Calleja has been appointed by World ParaVolley as one of the referees for the Sitting Volleyball Intercontinental Cup (Men & Women) which is going to be held in Hangzhou, China, between the 17th and 23rd March 2016
Mr. Calleja will be part of a team of international referees coming from six different continents who will be officiating during this competition. The Intercontinental Cup will be the last opportunity for national teams to obtain the last ticket to take part in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, which will be held in Brazil later this year in September.
Mr. Calleja, who is also General Secretary of ParaVolley Malta, will also represent the latter during the World ParaVolley General Assembly which will be held during the same event.
The Intercontinental Cup will be held at the Zhejiang Disabled Persons’ Sport Training Centre in Hangzhou. A record number of 32 national teams have applied to take part. This competition, besides being the last competition to award a berth at the Rio Paralympic Games, will also serve as match practice for those national teams who have already qualified. In fact out of the 32 teams taking part, thirteen have already qualified for the Paralympics.
