In the presence of H.R.H. the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, accompanied by the Minister of Labour & Sports Georges Mischo, ParaVolley Europe Communications Director Isabelle Collot led a sitting volleyball demonstration and initiation during the annual Paralympic Day organised by the Luxembourg Paralympic Committee at the Rehazenter in Kirchberg.

The activity was a very popular one attended by many young people and adults keen to discover the sport and practice some fun activity. With the helpf of Torsten Schooff, Technical Director of the Luxembourg Volleyball Federation, the workshop lasted for over 2hrs and was a great success. Indeed, H.R.H. the Grand Duke of Luxembourg played along and tried the discipline, being very impressed with the degree of physical fitness it requires and its playful aspect.

Marc Schreiner, Luxembourg Paralympic Committee president, himself a former sitting volleyball player, remembered the first appearance. of the discipline at the 1980 Arnhem Games where the country took part in the competition with their sitting volleyball team.

This event will hopefully lead to further initiations being organised in the Grand Duchy and potentially Luxembourg becoming one of the newest ParaVolley Europe members by opening communication with both the volleyball federation and the Paralympic Committee - stay tuned!
